Volunteer Fosterer

foster1
We need volunteer foster carers to look after orphaned baby wild mammals in your own home.

Full training and support is given and all equipment provided.

All volunteer fosterers need to be over the age of 18.

You will need to be available most of the time. Juvenile hedgehogs, for example, need feeding every 3-4 hours.

All applicants must live within half an hour’s drive of the hospital and have your own transport. You will need to be able to collect
the baby mammals and equipment.

The babies will need to be brought into the Hospital here for regular check ups with our wildlife nurses, and of course in an emergency if an animal in your care deteriorates, then it must be brought in immediately.

Having your own pets is not a problem, but you must have an area where you can care for the baby mammals that is warm (with electricity to plug in heat mats or lamps) and where your own pets can be shut out. Wildlife and pets do need to be kept apart.

Children must not be allowed to handle the baby wild mammals (no matter how innocent this may seem), as we must emphasise that these wild babies must remain wild, as ultimately we want them to be able to be released.

If you are interested in applying, then please send in your completed application.
