Visiting this Winter
We are very excited with our improvement plans and are proud to say that work has definitely started. This is great for both the permanent residents of Tiggywinkles and our Visitors however, we are not looking our best right now, all improvement work starts with a mess and we are no exception!
Our centre is open Monday – Friday (except the Christmas and New Year bank holidays) but we don’t have quite as much to see right now:
- Our Badger pen is empty of badgers and full of hard working builders.
- Our fox pen does have foxes with a lovely new viewing area but the enclosure enlargement is still taking place.
- All of our birds are either in the hospital or behind a very close knit protective mesh (see Bird Viewing in the Visitor Centre below.)
What you can see and do!
As usual we are always happy to get a hedgehog out to show you, plus during the Buckinghamshire school Christmas holidays we will be organising regular talks throughout the day. We will also be doing festive wildlife art and craft for children up to 16yrs.
Due to the messy improvements and reduction of viewable birds we are charging a reduced admission charge of £2.00 for adults and children. This is effective immediately and will continue until we are looking a little less shabby!
Bird viewing in our Visitor Centre
As I am sure you are aware from the news England is now within the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone. This is due to an outbreak of H5N8 within mainland Europe. To prevent the spread into the UK DEFRA have advised that all bird collections are protected for a 30day precautionary measure. Because of this all the birds in the Visitor Centre have been taken undercover for their own protection.
Protecting our Birds
As added protection you will be asked to step through a disinfecting foot bath and any pushchairs, wheelchairs and mobility scooters will have their wheels sprayed.
Here is a GOV.uk DEFRA link if you would like to read more about the H5N8 Europe mainland outbreak: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/avian-influenza-bird-flu
We look forward to seeing you soon and from everyone in the Visitor Centre MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Please read the 'What's On' section before visiting this winter.
Set in our beautiful gardens in the heart of the Chilterns countryside, Tiggywinkles Visitor Centre is home to some of our permanent animals who cannot be returned to the wild. So a blind hedgehog or 3-legged deer can live here in near-natural conditions, where they can be health-assessed regularly so they can live out the rest of their lives in safety.
The centre also allows visitors to see the work we do first hand and learn about the history of the Hospital, the type of animals we treat and some of the innovative techniques we employ.
We also welcome group visits and are happy to organise tours and talks for all ages, tailored to your group’s needs and interests. If you would like more information or would like to book a tour please click here.
Please Note: If you have purchased tickets through Groupon please print off the voucher and bring with you, thank you!
