Thank you for your interest. We are currently looking for the following volunteers:

Foster Carer

We need volunteer foster carers to look after orphaned baby wild mammals in your own home.

Full training and support is given and all equipment provided.

All volunteer fosterers need to be over the age of 21.

You will need to be available most of the time. Juvenile hedgehogs, for example, need feeding every 2-3 hours and can take a little while to feed. Each feed may take 15 to 30 minutes for the group of babies that you would be caring for.

All applicants must live within a maximum 30 minutes drive of the hospital and have your own transport. We want to minimise the travelling time for these vulnerable wild babies. You will need to be able to collect the baby mammals and equipment.

The babies will need to be brought into the Hospital for regular check-ups with our wildlife nurses. Also, of course, in an emergency if an animal in your care deteriorates it must be brought in immediately.

Having your own pets is not a problem, however you must have an area where you can care for the baby mammals that is warm (with electricity to plug in heat mats or lamps) and where your own pets can be shut out. Wildlife and pets do need to be kept apart.

Children (or other family members and friends) must not be allowed to handle the baby wild mammals (no matter how innocent this may seem), as we must emphasise that these wild babies must remain wild, as ultimately we want them to be able to be released.

If you are interested in applying, then please send in your completed application. Click here for our Fostering Application Form.

We are currently looking for volunteer rescuers in the following areas:
Anywhere in the area between Witney, Buckingham, and Wallingford, including Bicester, Oxford and Abingdon. Plus Chesham and Amersham.

Are you someone who fancies a challenge?

We need volunteer rescuers who are happy to rescue and transport sick and injured large animals and bring them to Tiggywinkles.

We will provide all the required training and equipment for you to rescue animals such as Swans, Foxes, Badgers and Deer.

You will need your own transport; a car with a large boot or small van is ideal.

Training is carried out on site here over several half days, covering the safe handling and transport of the different large species.

All volunteer Rescuers need to be over the
age of 21.

Ambulance Driver

We need kind caring people to go out and collect wildlife and transport it back to Tiggywinkles for emergency treatment.

These will usually be small animals such as hedgehogs and garden birds, that have been picked up by a member of the public who is unable to bring us the animal themselves.

You will need your own transport, and if possible your own pet carrier and gardening gloves.

These animals are normally sick or injured and will need immediate treatment at Tiggywinkles, so ideally we need people who are available at all hours.

All volunteer Ambulance Drivers need to be over the age of 21.

Still interested?

Do you live in Aylesbury, Tring, Aston Clinton, Bierton, Buckingham, Waddesdon, Lower Winchendon and across Oxfordshire from Kidlington to Wallingford? Then we would be particularly interested to hear from you!
