Programme of Study
Full time, one or two year course, incorporating a City & Guilds fully accredited qualification, plus communication and numeracy assignments, job search skills, team working and CV writing.
Year 1 includes the Level 1 Award in Work-based Animal Care.
Year 2 includes the Level 1 Certificate in Work-based Animal Care.

Level 1 Diploma in
Work-based Animal Care

Full time or part time course, incorporating 170 days work experience (8 months full time), leading to a City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Work-based Animal Care fully accredited qualification, plus essential hands-on skills.

Depending on the course, students will do some or all of these units:
Maintain the safety of self and others in the workplace
Assist with the care of animals
Principles of the care of animals
Principles of dealing with animal accommodation
Assist with animal accommodation
Principles of the movement and handling of small animals
Assist with the movement and handling of small animals
Principles of dealing with feedstuffs for small animals
Assist with feedstuffs for small animals
Principles of transporting supplies of physical resources within the work area
Assist with the transport supplies of physical resources within the work area
Assist with maintaining structures and surfaces
Principles of maintaining structures and surfaces
Assist with the maintenance of equipment
Principles of the maintenance of equipment
Maintain the cleanliness and bio security of the animal care working environment

Level 2 Diploma in
Work-based Animal Care

Full time or part time course, incorporating 240 days work experience (11 months full time), leading to a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Animal Care fully accredited qualification, plus essential hands-on skills. This qualification is an excellent stepping stone into a career in animal care.

Level 2 Diploma - Units
Students will do some of these units:
Maintain and develop personal performance
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Promote and maintain the health and well-being of animals
Deliver basic treatments to animals
Select and prepare accommodation for animals
Maintain animal accommodation
Control and restrain animals
Moving animals between locations
Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
Maintain the cleanliness and bio security of the animal care working environment
Provide controlled exercise opportunities for animals
Provide opportunities for animals to have freedom to exercise
Welcome, receive and care for visitors to sites
Communicate information within the workplace
Maintain and store records within the workplace
Prepare feed for animals
Provide feed and water to animals
Load and unload animals for transportation
